Redaction Software for Compliance-Driven Teams

image

Redactinator is a powerful desktop tool that helps IT, cybersecurity, and compliance teams quickly remove IP addresses, hostnames, and other sensitive information from logs, config files, and folders. Whether you’re preparing data for audits, sharing diagnostics, or scrubbing infrastructure details, Redactinator automates redaction safely and locally — no cloud, no risk.

Use Cases

Explore the range of use cases designed to enhance your compliance and privacy. Redactinator helps you tackle data protection challenges with ease.

The best part -> It is all done locally on your device. No worrying about what data stays in the cloud.

Scan Data

Scan your data for IP Addresses, Hostnames, MAC Addresses, and PII. Scanning allows you to find the sensitive data without changing anything. Export the scan results as a .csv and create your own charts, and data based information or automatically generate a simple chart within the app.

Redact Data

‣
IP Addresses
  • Current version allows redaction of IPv4 addresses. Future enhancements will add IPv6.
  • Easily remove IP addresses from large troubleshooting support bundles, such as those from Cisco or Broadcom. Our powerful data sanitization tools ensure your sensitive information is protected, allowing you to share these files securely.
‣
Hostnames

Safeguard sensitive data by removing hostnames from files. With our solution, you can protect your organization without sacrificing clarity.

‣
Personally Identifiable Information (PII)

Redactinator can remove sensitive data like Social Security Numbers and email addresses, ensuring your documents are thoroughly sanitized.

  • Social Security Numbers (SSN)
  • Date of Birth (DOB)
  • Emails
  • Names

Convert Data

Redactinator is able to convert unknown or compressed file formats into a .txt that is then readable and capable of being parsed for scanning or redaction purposes.

Supported File Formats

Text-Based Files

The application can directly scan and redact the contents of the following file types:

  • .txt
  • .log
  • .csv
  • .conf
  • .html
  • .ini
  • .json
  • .md
  • .xml
  • .yaml
  • .yml
  • .cfg
  • .toml
  • .env
  • .properties
  • .plist
  • .settings
  • .config

Archive Files

The application can extract and process the contents of the following archive types:

  • .zip
  • .tgz
  • .tar.gz
  • .tar

Other Files

Additionally, the "Convert Unknown Files" feature can intelligently detect and convert any text-based file with a non-standard or random extension (like .12345 or .dat) into a .txt file, making it processable by the scan and redact functions.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

‣
How does Redactinator work?

Redactinator scans files and folders for sensitive information like IP addresses and hostnames, then either redacts that data in place or generates a detailed report — depending on the mode you choose.

It works recursively through directories and supports a wide range of file types, including .txt, .log, .docx, .xlsx, configuration files, and compressed archives like .zip and .tar.gz.

Redactinator uses pattern matching (e.g., regex) to find sensitive content, and optionally replaces it with redaction tags. It also logs every detection and action, and can generate summary reports and visualizations to help you understand what was found and where.

You choose whether to:

  • Scan only (non-destructive): review what would be redacted without changing files
  • Redact in-place: overwrite sensitive data directly inside the files

Everything is logged for traceability — making it easy to audit or share with others.
